Just 3 weeks ago Girls Under Glass celebrated their 20th anniversary live on stage at the M'era Luna Festival. Guest performers included Tom Luecke (Girls Under Glass until 1989), Eric Burton (Catastrophe Ballet), Oswald Henke (Goethes Erben) and Peter Spilles (Project Pitchfork). To further celebrate the occasion, the DVD "Focus", in stores now, offers over three hours of previously unreleased material. The band sifted through over 130 hours of backstage interviews, live clips, and assorted footage to assemble the DVD, which also features the complete live concert from the 2005 Wave-Gotik-Treffen in 5.1 surround along with various promotional video clips and a 20 minute hidden track. Grab your copy now: the first edition of "Focus" comes in a special limited edition packaging!
This summer, Girls Under Glass will celebrate their 20th(!) anniversary on the main stage at the M'era Luna Festival. The gig will feature a few "special guests" and surprises. The Girls' first show was in the summer of 1986 at the Traditionsschuppen Kir in Hamburg. In addition to preparing for this very special performance, the band are also preparing a DVD retrospective entitled "Focus - 20 Years Of Girls Under Glass". To prepare the DVD, the band are sorting through over 100 hours worth of material. The final product will include concert clips, backstage footage, and material from all the periods of the band's development, along with last year's appearance at the Wave Gotik Treffen in full-length 5.1 surround sound and stereo versions.
For band and label alike, "Zyklus", the tenth album from Girls Under Glass, has been a smashing success, and things just keep getting better: a sold-out single ("Ohne Dich"), high positions in the DACs, interviews and praise in the press both at home and abroad, their first international licensing deals to US label Metropolis Records and now to Russia as well! Not something that happens every day. The band is also performing a number of shows in Europe:

The time has come: "Zyklus", the tenth studio album from Girls Under Glass, will be released on 31 January 2005. The number "10" is of special significance in numerology, symbolizing the union of the beginning (1) with the nothing (0). In a musical sense "Zyklus" is a cycle from beginning to end. The Hamburg trio selected the title because it represents not only the completion of a cycle but also a new beginning. Albums like "Humus", "Darius", and "Christus", milestones of the gothic-wave scene, have made countless "all time favorite" lists as well as influenced generations of fans. With "Zyklus", the trio present a flawless example of electronically-tinged gothic rock. Far removed from trendsetters such as HIM and company, the Girls transport their signature sound into the 21st century with this delightful, melancholy, powerful and emotive album. The band's twenty year history can be heard in every perfect riff and every unerring note of tracks like "In die Einsamkeit", "Feuerengel", and of course the clubhit "Ohne Dich". The listener is treated to hit after hit with an almost frightening matter-of-factness. With its dark, melancholy mix of guitars and electronics, bound together with English and German lyrics, "Zyklus" is the fitting end to a cycle that is simultaneously a breathtaking rebirth. "Ohne Dich", the new single from Girls Under Glass, has increased the anticipation for "Zyklus", the Hamburg trio's first new album in four years. Now the "Girls" have gotten the stamp of approval from the other side of the pond: "Zyklus" will see US release on American independent label Metropolis Records, the band's first US release in their 18-year history. "It's really cool for us, as a band with a decidedly European sound, to get a proper US release," enthused frontman Volker Zacharias. "It also tells us that this album is really something special. We couldn't be happier!" More news about the upomcing US release will be available from the band's newly redesigned and relaunched website, www.girlsunderglass.de.
Hailing from Hamburg, Germany, Girls Under Glass are a long-standing institution in the European gothic/wave scene. Their countless albums are remarkable not only for their consistent quality, but also for their diversity: the band's output spans the spectrum from metal to electro to pop without ever losing sight of the core: solid songwriting, intensive atmospheres, and outstanding vocals.
"Ohne Dich" ("Without You"), the first single to be taken from the upcoming album "Zyklus" (due out this January), features vocals by Peter Spilles, vocalist of cult megastars Project Pitchfork, alongside the epic-melodic voice of Girls Under Glass frontman Volker Zacharias. This single, which will be available only as a limited edition digipak, will be the first release on the Dependent sublabel Cellar Door on 15.11.04.
